Help the Animals

No contribution is too small.

Save the Animals

I've been away from my blog for quite a while now, but I'm back with a passion. And my passion happens to be helping find homes or financial support for the animals that the people in my county throw away, abandon, abuse, or simply cannot look after. I began last summer by making portraits of abandoned animals. The results were amazing. 100% of those animals found permanent homes. These were good dogs who just needed to be loved. Many times when an abandoned animal is photographed, he is dirty, malnourished, and scared. With the help of volunteers, we bathed and groomed the animals and made them look their best. This made them appear just as beautiful on the outside as they were on the inside. This year I'm making an effort to help raise money to get animals out of the county animal shelter and into foster or permanent homes. We're starting by first seeking donations to purchase large kennelsto lend out to individuals who agree to foster animals whose days are numbered when they go to the county shelter. If the shelter fills up, good adoptable animals are euthanized just to free up space. Next we'd like to create a spay and neuter fund to help offset the cost of preventing more unwanted animals in the shelter. Our goal would be to keep the shelter empty. If you are willing to help, please contact Angela at the animal shelter at 252-79-6800. Or donate what you can to help us in this effort. God bless you.

Whew! What a summer!

I've been so busy this summer that I haven't had any time to post here. Hopefully that will change now that the days are getting cooler and the daylight is fading faster. This forces me to schedule sessions earlier in the day and it gives me more time to work at night. Lot of beautiful weddings this summer and lots of fun, fabulous seniors.

I've been needing to update my website for a long time and it's finally happening. Being the artistic control freak that I am, I decided to go with a self designed site. Thanks to my photography friend Andrea Wood, I was pointed to a great flexible web design site that enables me to continue to be artistically in control. Thanks again, Andrea.

The busy summer was also filled with lots of fun. I was able to team up with some great photographers and great friends at several weddings. Bonnie Berlin and I are terrific friends and a terrific team. Lots of laughs, lots of work, and lots of great images. Thanks, Bonnie, for always being there to teach, share, listen, and help out!

East Coast Photographic School in August was once again a real bargain . Fortnately I was able to attend this event on scholarship, but I would have been there if I'd had to pay. Tony Corbel, lived up to his reputation by teaching us all he knows about light. I am a better photographer because of the experience.

Many special weekends were also spent at Atlantic Beach with my family and friends. I never leave home without my camera, and as a result I have many images of the wild ponies of Shackleford Island. It's so different from my portrait work that it encourages me to think outside the box.

I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer, my favorite season. Having been a teacher for 27 years, I always looked forward to the lazy summer months of vacation. This summer has been anything but lazy. I suppose now I'll have to take my vacations in the winter.

Wedding Season

June is definately the month for weddings. June began with Charles and Casey's wedding by the Roanoke River in Williamston. Thanks to the assistance of BJ and Ashley we got some great images. Then I was on my way to Nags Head to photograph Justin and Amanda's wedding with the help of Marlene. A hot day but the sky, the ocean, and the bride couldn't have been more beautiful. Last weekend Jesse and Diana were married in Bertie County and we were able to use the Hope Plantation as the backdrop for the formal shots. Ashley once again helped me capture all the activities. I'm anxious to get those processed and up for viewing. This weekend Aaron and Kristen will be married at Piney Grove and the reception will be at Yankee Hall. My favorite photographer friend Bonnie Berlin of Bonber Photographics is driving in from Winston Salem to be my second shooter. We're a great team so the images should be fabulous!
